Overview

Since 1977, Sojourner Center has been a safe haven from domestic violence for women and their children in Arizona. Since our founding, we have transformed lives by providing shelter and support services to more than 60,000 adults and children affected by domestic violence. We provide a broad spectrum of services to victims of domestic violence, while working with professionals in the field on education, research and advocacy with the goal of ending domestic violence.

 

Job Summary: The Lay Legal Advocacy Case Manager provides legal advocacy services to victims of domestic violence living in or having a case in Maricopa County.

 

The Lay Legal Advocacy Case Manager possesses a strong ability to perceive the many layers of client needs and effectively provides services, referrals, and support. This position also remains apprised of the community-based services and support systems available to clients seeking assistance through the lay legal advocacy program.

 

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm

 

Rate of Pay: $20.00/hour ($21.00/hour after bilingual assessment)

Responsibilities

  1. Completes Brief Service Plan outcome questionnaires regarding services provided, case closing documents, and quarterly satisfaction survey reports.
  2. Works cooperatively with collaborating and advisory agencies and individuals in this project, including other Sojourner Center departments.
  3. Participates in ongoing education with regard to cultural competence, linking services specific to cultural needs presented by all participants. Submits training certificates, vital factor reports and case file documents.
  4. Attends a minimum of 24 hours of professional training each year; submits training records and certificates.
  5. Attends regularly scheduled meetings related to funding sources and victim services. Networks with shelters weekly regarding client needs and completes monthly reports.
  6. Maintains accurate client records in individual files. Submits monthly report according to contract and grant objectives. Prepares monthly case file documentation.
  7. Accompanies clients who need assistance with completing and filing the petition for Orders of Protection.
  8. Evaluates additional needs (i.e., shelter, community support, counseling, legal, etc.) and provides additional resources.
  9. Attends and participates in community meetings and tabling events. Provides community presentations when requested.

Qualifications

  • Requisite combination of education and pertinent experience
  • Preferred: college-level coursework in psychology, sociology, criminal justice, criminology, victimology, or a related field, plus six (6) months of experience in a field related to victim services, community programs/projects or criminal justice related work; OR, one (1) year of experience performing the essential functions as described in this job description.
  • Bilingual English Spanish . Language Assessment will be administered.
  • Ability to obtain a Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Valid Arizona Driver License, proof of automobile insurance and Motor Vehicle Record acceptable to Sojourner Center’s insurance company.

Physical Factors/Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work in an office setting.
  • Requires the use of a computer and other standard office equipment.
  • Requires frequent travel between Sojourner Center campuses and court locations.
