Crisis Shelter Program Manager

Since 1977, Sojourner Center has been a safe haven from domestic violence for women and their children in Arizona. Since our founding, we have transformed lives by providing shelter and support services to more than 60,000 adults and children affected by domestic violence. We provide a broad spectrum of services to victims of domestic violence, while working with professionals in the field on education, research and advocacy with the goal of ending domestic violence.

Job Summary

The Crisis Shelter Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation of the 30 crisis shelter rooms located on Heritage campus including the Pet Companion Shelter of Sojourner Center and includes responsibilities for developing, planning, supervising, and evaluating program services and ensuring contractual agreements and best practices in the field of domestic violence, and Human Trafficking. Ensures successful collaboration between all Sojourner Center staff and Departments to maximize service excellence. Supports strong working relationships between direct service and support service functions.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (May be required to work some evenings and/or weekends as needed.)

Rate of Pay: $55,000 to $58,000/Annually

Essential Functions

1. Collaborates with Human Resources for hiring, onboarding, and training of new staff. Ensures new staff’s training is complete and that all relevant forms are complete during the initial training period.
2. Directly supervises Shelter Coordinators and oversees the accurate and timely completion of Coordinators’ tasks and documentation. Provides daily support, training, and resources for all staff providing case management services and supporting with daily operations. Oversees and ensures processes and core philosophies are being implemented and followed.
3. Provides professional development, team development, domestic violence training, and leadership training to Sojourner Center staff. Provides ongoing supervision and annual reviews to assigned direct reports.
4. Reviews and offers feedback of daily operations by reviewing Shift Report, Weekend Prep, and Shift Exchange documentation. Delegates or completes such tasks in the absence of the Shelter Coordinator. Monitors and delegates participant file audits, Post Exit Surveys, and tracking of Sojourner Center equipment (walkies, keys, laptops, etc.). Ensures tasks and prioritizes accordingly during shift, based on coverage needs.
5. Through daily staff meetings ensures quality service delivery and attends staffing meetings of participants’ programs. Facilitates classes offered on-site/off-site. Promotes culturally appropriate service provision.
6. Works closely with Managers and Directors, recognizes and effectively responds to impacts of domestic violence and trauma; additionally, provides ongoing training for staff regarding recognition of and supportive interventions for domestic violence survivors.
7. Discerns and prioritizes needs of program participants, staff, and the agency and takes appropriate action to efficiently and effectively meet the needs utilizing critical thinking, team problem solving, program development, and involvement with all levels of management, as appropriate and by following the On-call Paging Matrix.
8. Participates in collaborative efforts with partners in the domestic violence community regarding innovation and implementation of best practices. Maintains up-to-date contacts of community resources, provides training for staff regarding community resources, and ensures provision of referrals and follow-up oversight. Promotes agency wide services within the community at large.
9. Initiates and facilitates communication with other departments concerning program changes, information updates, and opportunities for collaboration. Collaborates with peers and supervisors to create or improve existing process as needed to better meet the needs of the program.
10. Practices financial stewardship by ensuring the facility, equipment, and supplies are maintained in good repair, the program is within budget requirements, and staff resources are being maximized. Completes expense reports as needed and utilizes budget-tracking tools in place.
11. Completes reports as assigned, monitors progress of participant services, and provides input for relevant contracts. Collaborates with Quality Assurance to ensure all participant documentation and records are complete.
12. Required to respond to after hours and weekend calls from staff when assigned to on-call rotation.

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements

• At least 21 years of age.
• Masters degree in social work, human services or a related field preferred with 5 years supervisor experience or Bachelors’ degree in social work, human services or a related field with 7 years supervisory experience; experience in managing a residential setting is required;
• Ability to obtain a Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Valid Arizona Driver License, proof of automobile insurance and Motor Vehicle Record acceptable to Sojourner Center’s insurance company.
• First Aid and CPR certification.

Physical Factors/Working Conditions

• Stands, walks, and sits continuously throughout the day.
• Reaches, stoops, bends, lifts, carries and manipulates various materials.
• Utilizes computer and standard office equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Some travel between work locations and in the community is required.
• Required to accept on-call responsibilities during assigned evenings/weekends.
